Ethical Gift-Guide

By:
Amanda Puleo

Hey friends!! I am so excited to bring to you this ethical do-good gift guide! I came across all these amazing companies at the Yellow Conference this past summer. From jewelry and makeup, to apparel and accessories, if you are looking to support companies on a mission this holiday season, there is something on this list for everyone!

PARKER CLAY

FIRST UP: This A-M-A-Z-I-N-G leather backpack is from Parker Clay. I am telling you, this backpack is worth everyyy penny. The unique shape fits my back so well and goes with any outfit! And I love how it can work for all different seasons. It’s so versatile! Parker Clay Founders Brittney and Ian are two of the most lovely people I have ever met. They gave the most encouraging talk at the Yellow Conference and their family story is truly inspiring. Check them out! They have so many styles for men and women! **Right now, they are offering 20% off gifts under $100!

Parker Clay are dedicated to transforming communities in Ethiopia through social and economic empowerment.

“In the capital city of Addis Ababa, an estimated 150,000 women work in the commercial sex industry. Lacking opportunities with meaning and hope, women are lured into prostitution as a way of supporting themselves and their families. Having witnessed their cry to escape the sex industry, Parker Clay partnered with the non-profit Ellilta—Women at Risk to empower these women in Ethiopia to realize their potential.”

Providing premium jobs to skilled artisans at Parker Clay’s production facility in Ethiopia, is key to supporting community transformation. A job for Parker and Clay artisan’s means more than just a paycheck; it offers an avenue to support themselves and their families, representing social standing and economic stability - and a chance to invest in building a better life. ISIKO

Up next are these tortoise shell earrings from isiko. I have been looking for a great pair of these for awhile and I was so excited to find this ethical pair. At the conference I met Janna, who created isiko and the mission behind her company allows her to share the art of other cultures and to benefit all involved.

"EDUCATION IS THE MOST POWERFUL WEAPON WHICH YOU CAN USE TO CHANGE THE WORLD.” - NELSON MANDELA

isiko loves to give back to its global community. On a quarterly basis, they identify an organization and donate 10% of their proceeds in support of their efforts.

Currently, they are supporting Kurandza and their #istandforgirls campaign. Kurandza is a non-profit social enterprise that invests in the future of women and girls in Mozambique. Through education, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development programs, women learn to become leaders in their villages, sharing their skills and knowledge with the rest of their community, and creating an opportunity for thousands of people. visit their site to shop here >>

MAZÍ

“Mazí is the Greek word meaning together.”

These are some of the most unique earrings I have come across in awhile and they are such a fun way to jazz up an outfit. They would be a great gift for that fashionable friend we all have! At Yellow, I met Ashley, the artist behind Mazi. She was so kind and warm and she creates beautiful products with a great mission behind them.

15% of all Mazí profits go towards Team World Vision and helping bring clean water to Africa.

“Mazí exists to partner together with organizations working to address critical human needs around the world. For this collection, Mazí is raising support for Team World Vision and clean water in Africa. Lack of access to clean water currently affects hundreds of millions of people. Every day, communities, families, grown ups and children have to walk miles and miles to get water that isn't even safe to drink. This reality impacts everything—from health and education, to opportunity and survival. World Vision works to bring clean water directly to these communities and individuals, changing their lives forever.”

ELATE COSMETICS

I don’t know about you guys, but I am a sucker for a good, pigmented eye shadow. Over the years, I have learned how important it is to know what is in the products you are using on your skin. The products at Elate are just that!

Elate is committed to empower everyone to use the best possible products for their daily rituals. They create safe effective beauty products using cruelty-free ingredients, ethical marketing and sustainable practices.

They have a wide range of products great to gift the beauty junkie in your life!

YOUME CLOTHING

YOUME Clothing, is a San Diego based nonprofit that exists to renew and empower communities through collaborative repurposing partnerships. They provide school uniforms and new clothes to kids in developing countries in exchange for their oldest, most tattered garment—which is repurposed into YOUME products and sold. Proceeds fund further clothing exchanges and development projects.

Friends, this has been my go-to comfy t-shirt since I bought it. I love it because I have dressed it up like you see here and I have also worked out in it. So it has lots of different uses. I love the story behind the shirts. It’s a story about transformative relationships, about recognizing we are all connected, and that our actions impact one another. It’s a story about joining together to create a better future – putting you before me. Affordable products with a great mission!

UNCVRD JEWELRY

This jewelry line has such delicate beautiful pieces. They have statement items as well as pieces that can be used for layering.

Millions of women and girls are being sexually exploited around the world today. This is happening in our lifetime, in our country, in our cities. UNCVRD’s mission is to bring awareness to the fight against slavery and empower women and girls by cultivating their creative gifts. Awareness has grown significantly over the past few years, but we still have a long way to go. Their vision is to see human sex trafficking abolished in our lifetime. Jewelry isn't going to change the world, but they are fully convinced that the women who wear it will.

By purchasing UNCVRD jewelry, you are making a direct impact in the effort to end human trafficking. 40% of the proceeds from each sale goes directly to our local partners to help fund street outreach, programming for their survivors, preventative measures and more.

If you have any ethical, do-good companies that you guys love, please share!! Hope you all have fun shopping for everyone on your list this year! <3 Thanks for reading!

Much love,

A
